Hall became one of the greatest drivers of his generation by accumulating an amazing number of wins and honors over his remarkable career. Perhaps more than the awards or records he broke, though, was the innovative and exceptional attitude he instilled in the sport. Hall had an innate love of all things mechanical from his early childhood. As sights and sounds of cars thundering down dusty highways and across wide stretches of desert territory enthralled him as a child growing up in the heartland of America. Hall had a complete fixation with racing as he got older. Attracted to the exhilaration of competing and testing machinery to breaking point, he started to follow his aspirations with constant focus. But unlike a lot of other ambitious racers of his day, Hall approached the sport as a forward-thinking engineer, constructor, and driver. Several ground-breaking developments that would permanently alter the racing scene characterized Hall's entry into the world of motorsport. When his peers were still using conventional chassis-building procedures in the early 1960s, Hall was leading the way in the application of cutting-edge composite materials and ground-breaking technical processes. Hall set out to transform race vehicle design and construction with partner Hap Sharp. Their partnership produced the Chaparral race vehicle series, which very quickly came to represent performance, speed, and technological innovation.
