All was not so wonderful after the island's volcano, Vintomous Eurptous, explodes, staining the sky and poisoning the air. All would have perished but, as all surfers know, the ions in salt water rejuvenate the soul. Instead, they all came back as skeletons of their former selves. Undaunted, they gave themselves new names associated with human bones: The club leader is Bones, his wife Fibulorous, daughter Tibula, and son Humorous. They and their friends rebuild, replant, and vow to stay. After all, where else can skeletons go?The Lone Anchovy, too bright for his school of baitfish, drops out of his social sphere and, by happenstance or maybe spiritual guidance, ends up on the shores of Born Knee Koho where the Half Dead Surf Club befriends him. Bones is so impressed with Chovie's literary skills, he appoints him the club chronographer to document the island's history and publish a daily epitaph.But an evil presence wants to develop the island paradise into a profitable commercial venture. Thus begins the struggle for custodianship of the island that evolves into a full-scale battle of good vs. evil.
