Down to earth, back to basics!

I purchased this book seeking information on how to start locks and that's what I got! The language is forthright and easy to understand. Naela Kitabu Imanyara-Serikali's nine year old locks whom we see on the photo are beautiful! Can't wait to see mine years down the road.Definitely a good read, I recommend for your libraries.Hotep!

Don't dread your locks

I'm almost fifty and have never understood what happens to my hair. I've always taken it for granted that I would have to just deal with my hair 'in the morning'. But, this book has made it very clear to me all of the elements involved to make a 'good hair day' including diet, exercise, what I'm shampooing with, what I'm conditioning with, etc. I am so enlightened. I would have liked more photos in the 'how to create locks' chapter to help me determine which style would look the best to me. I loved the positive self-image information to help us appreciate our hair the way it is. Thanks Sister Kumasi.

Answers to our many questions...

My teenager is considering hairlocking and I was looking for an authoritative resource to help guide her. This book was the perfect answer! It is easy reading, straight-forward and full of information. I particulary enjoyed the historical tidbits on hairstyling. My daughter and I both are more comfortable with the process; we truly understand what she is undertaking and I now better understand her desire to do this. Thank you, Sister Serikali! You've helped a mom's communication with her teen!

Primer for locking

This is a brief book on starting locks. It tries to give you a little information on many topics - hair construction, reactions to locking, styles, exercise, diet, herbs, nutrition, and definitions. Don't expect pictures to get you started. However, I found it useful in the areas of beginning the locking process, shampooing, and grooming tips (although the stocking cap washing technique was a questionable item). The do's and don't's section was also helpful, but brief. This is a short book, but it does contain advice that I have found useful. It highlights some of the key issues discussed under dread locs found on the black haircare website.
