Hail, Hero!

Carl Dixon (Michael Douglas) is a young man who fights for the love of his parents in this impressive drama set in the 60s. Although he is from an extremely patriotic and military-minded family, Carl is fiercely against the Vietnam War. His long hair and radical ideas are not welcome at home. His mother (Teresa Wright) is so busy that she hardly gives him any attention. His father (Arthur Kennedy) has never forgiven him for the accident to which his older brother, Frank (Peter Strauss) was left with a lame leg. But what Carl's parents don't know is their son voluntarily reported to the army and he sees this visit home as the chance to settle his parent's doubts before going to Vietnam. "Hail, Hero!" is a realistic representation of the turbulent period in which the film takes place and combines excellent acting performance, a strong script and songs from Gordon Lightfoot.
