Haiku Too

There are 335 haiku in this collection. Some of them comply with the traditional 5-7-5 syllable traditional haiku form. Some do not. All of them have been translated into another language to present an expanded perspective of the tradition. Mostly French, Spanish, Italian, and German. Languages that I have studied and maintain some facility with. Google translate has been a resource in this exploration. Frequently a language other than English has influenced word choices and word order that has, in my view, altered and enhanced the English version. Languages differ, yet expression of language in poetry to attain the highest level of meaning and communication unites the species of Homo sapiens. Along with dance, painting, music, theatre, all the arts, poetry represents the most delightfully intelligent qualities the species possesses. Cover by Eric Busch, American painter 1945-2002.
