World famous sculptor Gutzon Borglum who carved presidents' heads on Mount Rushmore, said in court he had never seen anything more beautiful than Hahatonka before Bagnell Dam overflowed its beautiful blue water with mud and slime. Three time Senator James A. Reed, in need of cash for his run against Franklin Roosevelt as Democratic nominee for President, was hired to argue the suit against Union Electric for one million dollars in damages. The trial was halted when Nelly Don was kidnapped and Reed rushed back to Kansas City to coerce Tom Perdergast's northside band of gangsters to rescue her.
