In this study, I will argue that the story of Hadad the Edomite fits the literary pattern called Fugitive Hero developed by Edward Greenstein. In addition, I will argue that the kings of Edom, listed in Genesis 36:31-39 contain Saul, David (Baal Hanan) and Hadad and that Hadad was a part of the plot of Pharaoh to get David and Solomon's gold. The plot had a three-pronged approach, through marriage to Solomon, and hosting Jeroboam son of Nebat and Hadad the Edomite Pharaoh received intelligence about Israel and its temple. He first married Solomon and sent in Hadad secretly. Then after Solomon died sent in Jeroboam and split the kingdom into two parts. The northern part going to the vassal Jeroboam where he established the worship of Egyptian golden calves. Secondly the raid of Shishak where he emptied the temple of its gold and treasures.
