I saw this book highly recommended among non-Native Mandarin language students. Their praise was such that despite the high cost-per-page ratio I decided it was worth a risk. I have dozens of Mandarin language books with lessons, dictionaries, and learning styles but was stuck for living in a remote area beyond the digital divide so direct instruction options were out...This book was well-worth the price new, and if you can get it less here, even more valuable. Linge dives into the essentials of what motivates you to want to learn Mandarin, then guides you through to a self-study program. If you signed up for a class, that was you acting in self-study then handing a lot of your choices over to (hopefully) a qualified teacher. If you believe in taking ownership of your own exploration in Mandarin, this will help you avoid or push through many of the mental blocks. Linge's lessons would easily apply to most other subjects of study as well...A Must-Read!
