Gurl Let Me Tell You Something: A Collection of Short Stories represents an innovative form of writing achieved by the author, a former high school and college English instructor of more than thirty years. The book consists of eight stories in which the author interweaves stories about surviving in unbreathable air often occupied by Black women. The stories ask is the way out self-destruction or developing an iron-clad resistance. Additionally, some stories, "Seloma," and "Justice in Fish Lake" delve into the controlling aspects of love and sex. They include a multiplicity of voices that take us from the particulars of Black women's lives to the costs of sexual freedom. "A Love Story" represents a strange kind of fantasy story in which nature, in the form of fish, go awry and take their revenge upon the main character. Some love scenes are graphically described.
