Gunther

There weren't all that many folks who still traveled by covered wagon. Most people took advantage of the more modern ways to travel, but some held on to their ancestry as tight as they held on to their wool socks in winter. They insisted that they wanted to pull their wagon through the Bozeman Pass, then on to Virginia City, and Gunther was the only man they trusted to lead the way.Born in Wyoming, but having an ancestry from Switzerland, Gunther stood apart from the rest with his long, blond hair and fair skin. As a young boy, who tagged along with trappers, he knew how to record landmarks on his palm as though he was filling in a map. Survival came as natural to him as a cowboy to a cattle drive. He gladly gave up trapping, however, when he was hired to ride with Captain Al Wiggins as scout master. Gunther was keenly aware of all the dangers that could plague a train. If the travelers didn't turn on themselves, Mother Nature would challenge their emotions as well as physical strength. Fortunately, he had never had the threat of an Indian attack. Ever since he had become friends with Wind In Mourning he had learned to speak the Shoshone language fluently and was respected as a brother of integrity. He had sat in Chief Omekobee's tent many times, smoking the pipe and trading stories. Everyone had a story to tell, but this trip was going to challenge each one in ways they could have never imagined! Dealing with poachers, a dead Indian witch doctor, and a bizarre fire, Gunther had to balance every day hardships with the eerie supernatural.
