awesome book!

dont need to say anymore other than this! if you love GnR you will love this vivid and perfect description of their career, despite who your favourite member might be!

simply awesome!

if you're tired of the Axl bashing from the press read this book - its balanced but respectful of the great front man and flies by because it moves fast - just like the bands career has always done......very considered and thoughtful read from an author i will definitely be reading more by, roll on Chinese Democracy!

Rip Roaring coverage of the best band in the world!

I wasn't going to review this book but after reading the review below I felt I had to. This reader clearly did not understand the point of the book and also didn't appear to read it properly - the things she says were not covered most certainly are! So there IS coverage of the tabloid articles, the concerts/gigs, the altercations with Vince Neil and Kurt Cobain, the '88 tragedy, the St. Louis riot.. The reader appears bitter because she would LIKE to have written this book but at 16 doesn't know much about anything let alone a band who was around before they were born! In fact she criticises the "puncuation" which says a lot.

We love you AXL!

the whole point of this book is to focus on not only the Guns N Roses of the past, but also as it is right now. it is ridiculous some 'fans' complain about there being too much focus on Axl, he IS Guns N Roses now. however this book does indeed focus on the earlier days of the band and does it fairly, never underestimating the contributioon of the other ex members. it seems it was too early to focus much on Velvet Revolver, but not only is that band crap - this is a book about G N R!!! i recommend this for both casual observers and true fans, there is simply so much information in it and i just couldn't put the book down. Guns' is my favourite band and i know a lot but there was still information i hadn't heard. the author backs it up well also, so it seems very plausible. he also goes very far into Axl Roses' psyche which makes for an entertaining, if often distrubing read. simply, if you ever want a book on Guns N Roses make it this one!

Excellent overview of Axl & co!

Whether you long for the classic days of Gn'R or just cannot wait to see 'Chinese Democracy' hit the stores there will be something in this book for you. Even if you like many of us believe the new album will never come out, there is plenty here to keep you guessing and also plenty that comes out which i for one never knew before. there is a whole host of new material and unlike many unofficial products this is actually intensely researched and captures an author who seems like a real fan and gives not only his side of the story but also a balanced perspective. e.g. even though he would have liked Axl to have been involved as only some other ex members were willing he decided not to talk to any of them and get facts from fans, people in the business and general research. there is a magnificent chapter on Axl and his life in the past decade, which really digs into his psyche and goes more probing and analysing (in a very convincing way) than any interview i've ever seen...i simply could not put this book down and it certainly makes me want to hear ANY of the new material because as the author assures us, its there and its coming out - EVENTUALLY! some nice touches in the book: excellent photos, a live gigs section all about the Gn'R comeback with Axl and Dizzy, and a very extensive discography. this is far superior to any past works on the band and it would take a book from Axl himself to compete with this as an essential source of information on Guns N Roses in the past decade. Simply, no serious Gunner should be without this, brilliant!
