Gundy, an orphaned, blind baby wombat finds himself in an unfamiliar place with strange sounds and smells and no mum to care for him. He is scared and lonely. Happy Feet, the emu, tells him not to be afraid as he will introduce him to the other residents.
Gundy worries the others may not like him because he is not like other wombats. Happy Feet tells hm being different doesn't matter at the sanctuary as many of the animals are different. Gundy then worries that he may not be safe because he cannot see, so Happy Feet offers to be his guide emu. As they explore the sanctuary together they meet Arnold, the koala, Miri, the dingo, Aisha the wallaby and the rangers - each of them different in their own way.
Gundy realises that being different does not matter and that he has found a new, safe home and a new family.
