Gumshoe is Great

I read this book back in the mid 70's when I lived in England and loved it. It started me down the path to Raymond Chandler, Robert B. Parker and that whole funny mystery genre. Right up to Elmore Leonard and Carl Hiaasen.When I rediscovered it a few years ago, I could hardly believe it. It was like encountering an old friend after a very long time.
