This book is written to create a conversation in organizations, businesses, and churches on the necessity of a structured mentoring program and developing a succession plan. The lack of a thoughtfully conceived and strategic plan will ultimately end in the demise and uncertainty of any organization. I believe that there are many great leaders throughout the world who love their groups and organizations and are doing their best to lead them into the future.
However, many of them have not been equipped with the tools and processes to ensure the perpetuity and growth of their churches, organizations, and businesses. I am convinced that any leader who is not concerned about the continued growth and health of their respective churches and organizations after their inevitable departure does not truly love it but is only concerned about the security of their present position.
It is my desire that, through this book, existing leaders will recognize the need to mentor and prepare emerging leaders for senior leadership positions. I also hope that the leaders coming behind me will not have to endure the many developmental challenges concerning mentorship that I faced as an emerging leader.
