Excellent introductory "field guide" to Astronomy

I would highly recommend Sir Patrick Moore's Guide to Stars and Planets for anyone looking for a well-rounded introdution to the field of Astronomy and star watching. He covers most aspects of the subject in clear terms with excellent maps & diagrams, such that the newcomer will find it informative, and the veteran astronomer/star watcher can appreciate its pocket size, simplicity, and wealth of information (considering its size). Considering its affordability, this is a great way to introduce someone to the field, encourage a neophyte, provide a handy field reference, or even give as a gift! Do note that it is not updated to include some of the very recent discoveries or changes (e.g., Pluto as a dwarf planet, discovery of Eris & Haumea). All the same, this is a great buy, for what its worth.
