Book Overview

Guglielmo Marconi is the world famous inventor of the radio, for which he was awarded the 1909 Nobel Prize in physics. Marconi's fame increased when his wireless equipment helped bring rescue ships for the sinking ocean liners in the 1910s, saving many lives. In the 1920s, Marconi also began to experiment with short waves and microwaves. Marconi and his staff eventually perfected systems which made short-wave radio efficient and reliable, and also developed the first microwave telephone system in 1932. This paved the way for the subsequent revolution in microwave electronic communication.
