Chloe Locke is a dedicated gamer. In 2038 a new game is coming out called Guardian Meta. The game claims to have created full-body immersion VR pods that will allow players to live continuously in the game for weeks and even months at a time. The producers of the game offer Chloe and her entire party complimentary pods. An offer all five of them leap at.
The only reason Chloe can't stay in the game is her job. She doesn't need her job, so she quits in a spectacular that just might save the forensic accounting firm she worked for. Now free of all obligations, she can stay full-time, but the rest of her party can't. She offers to have them move to her house, where she has more than enough space.
Chloe can take care of all the living expenses for them, the only issue is, the closest member of her party is over forty-eight hundred miles away in Japan. When she brings up the possibility to the in-game administrators, they jump at the chance and agree to take care of all the visa requirements and transportation.
Her party quickly takes care of several sets of bandits, so the administrators tell her they need her party to conduct their move as soon as possible, as pirates are now a huge problem.
