The Breakers refer to travelers who violate the use of the passages as Sojourners. The young, lovely April of Black Moor is the type of sojourner the Breakers fear the most. Her romantic involvement with Marcus the Archer, a prince from the Bast Empire, could bring her to the throne of one of Varna's largest empires. The Breakers will do whatever they can to stop April from ascending to the throne, even if it means killing Marcus the Archer, who is one of their native sons.
