Starting life in 1964 as an option on Pontiac's Tempest line, GTO took muscle car performance to new levels that young people could afford. Through the middle 1960s GTO power increased as engine size went up. In 1969 it was a 366bhp Ram-Air V8. Exhaust emissions took their toll together with high fuel prices. The name ceased as a variation of the Ventura in 1974. This is a book of contemporary road tests, new model introductions, technical data, driving impressions, development, history.
