As a child, Josie Bassett came west in a wagon train to Brown's Park in Colorado's extreme northwest corner. She witnessed first-hand the strong-arm tactics of the cattle barons trying to steal the land from smaller ranch owners, during which a man was hung from the gate post of the Bassett ranch entrance.
