Dr. Mohammad Douglah lived 36 years in Iraq and 38 years in America. Born and raised in poverty in Iraq, and then educated in Madison, Wisconsin, U.S.A., he returned to Iraq committed to a common cause of rebuilding his country. Almost 17 years later, disillusioned by the ruling regime's commitment to change, denied the opportunity to contribute in his chosen field, and having experienced a terrifying, personal meeting with Saddam Hussain, he left Iraq with his wife to visit two of their children living in the United States just days before the outbreak of the Gulf War. He was never to return. This is his story from earliest recollection to the present, spanning two vastly different cultures, two wars, and countless personal sacrifices of his friends and family.
