Ground In Gamut is the story of the unfortunate Richard Parker of Ipswich whose father has decreed that when he returns from France he must marry a woman he hates. He has barely a week in which to find an alternative wife and a trading trip to Boulogne provides the perfect opportunity to woo and win a woman that is more to his taste. But it is 1692 and things are complicated. England and France are at war; England is still reeling from the shock of the Glorious Revolution that unseated the unpopular King James, while France is intent on restoring him to the English throne by force of arms. Richard will have to prove himself in ways he did not at all expect, contending with imprisonment, heart-ache and a very stubborn young woman who proves to be his most difficult challenge yet. His only allies seem to be an ex-Naval officer with a murky past and the music of Henry Purcell, arguably England's greatest ever composer.
