If you are looking for environmentally preferable, or "green" building products and materials, then check the book out. Published by the folks who put out "Environmental Building News," it contains helpful listings for hundreds and hundreds of products.I really like that they don't accept any advertising or fees from the product manufacturers... makes me feel like I can trust what they have to say. The information is well organized and presented. The listings are organized by "CSI masterspec" which is a system used by Architects, so it takes some getting used to if you're not an Architect... for example, insulation is under "thermal protection." There is a handy cross-reference index by more common category names of products. There's also some "specification" language... another aspect that is more useful for architects than the general public. But it gives some good tips on how and why to use these green materials. I have heard that the publisher, BuildingGreen, is coming out with a "homeowner" version soon.
