Greene Deja Vu

The think tank, Greene Mountain LLC, was working on the developments needed to take them into space. They had successfully utilized a ruse to get some ships into space for the purpose of dealing with potential issues with large asteroids or bodies that threaten the Earth. They had created a fictitious group that the public was led to believe was an alien group called the Star Rangers. It was so successful that the group was able to rid the planet of weapons of mass destruction. This gave them time to secretly build and launch hyper light ships. When the first of these was tested, they stumbled across a pirate venture that was aimed at destroying a number of worlds with sentient populations. Using their advanced technology, they were able to disable the pirate fleet.
One of the LLC members suggested that while they could not declare hostilities on behalf of Earth, they might consider making the fictional Star Rangers a working reality and help those threatened in the process. Thus the Star Rangers was born and a new protective force went to work
