Green-Up Plan: A Small-Town Romance (Silver Notch Book 3)

By Ale[X] M.

He signs nothing that burns, but she measures everything that will.

Nate Corliss has signed zero burns in 6 years as fire chief of Silver Notch, because at 19 he was the youngest hand on the prescribed burn that escaped and took his father's mill shop with it. The valley remembers 2011, and that memory has kept 15 years of fuel standing untouched around 800 people, 1 road out, and a tower the county has condemned 3 times.

Wren Vossghel left Silver Notch at 22 and became the state's best wildland-fire risk assessor, which is how she knows her home valley is 1 lightning strike from a catastrophe that would make 1978 look small. Her mitigation plan asks the town for the 1 thing it swore off forever: 300 acres of the old mill section, burned on purpose, on her word, before the real fire comes. The state deadline is Aug 15. After that, the insurance leaves.

A condemned 1962 fire tower that has never once fallenA burn plan only an outsider could sign, and only a local could runA town that learned to fear fire before it learned to read it

From a dawn weather call to a drip torch passed hand to hand, from the evacuation road the town ran as children to the same road lined with trucks on burn day, they learn what no risk model holds: suppression protects what exists, prescription chooses what grows next, and trust is the only line that holds in both directions.

Clean and closed-door romance, dual POV, small-town Colorado, grumpy-sunshine with real stakes, competent people doing hard things together, and a guaranteed happy ending.

You find out what a valley is worth when it stops waiting to burn and starts choosing what to grow.
