Green Manufacturing Practices in Indian Automotive Sector

The introduction of the thesis is focused on this chapter. It includes a brief introduction

about Green Manufacturing (GM), sustainability, energy-efficient processes to reduce waste

and emission, and subsequent reduction in carbon footprint to affect climate positively. It also

includes challenges and difficulties to have a sustainable auto industry. The organization of

the thesis and its objectives are also presented here. This thesis is mainly centered on

understanding the green practices adopted in manufacturing in the Indian automotive sector

and their effect on society. The methodology is predominantly qualitative, and various

research methods were used, namely: primary data analysis and secondary data analysis, and

interviews. In today's world, pollution has become a significant problem.

Green Manufacturing refers to optimizing the manufacturing process and wallowing

towards achieving manufacturing efficiency on hand, and avoiding unnecessary waste that

pollutes the environment. While manufacturing goods, wastages are produced at various

levels, which require necessary attention while disposing of them. Chemical waste is disposed

at rivers, and polluting smoke from chimneys has done a significant amount of damage to the

environment. Therefore, there is a need to implement and monitor the Green Manufacture

system before pollution reaches an extreme level.

The ideology of the Green Manufacturing system revolves around reducing environmental

impact by reducing wastages and recycling them, which reduces harmful effects caused by the

traditional manufacturing system. It helps reduce wastages and manufacturing costs, but it

also allows an organization to reduce costs and reap profits.
