Green and Sustainable Self-Service Technologies: Innovations and Impacts for Environmental Resilience

This volume synthesizes cutting edge research on the design, deployment and impact of sustainable self-service technologies.

Self-service technologies (SSTs) are rapidly transforming service delivery by enabling scalable, automated interactions that can significantly reduce environmental footprints across industries. From solar powered self-order kiosks in hospitality to AI driven energy management portals in smart buildings, SSTs present novel opportunities for promoting sustainable consumption and circular resource use. Through empirical case studies, theoretical reviews, and design science approaches, this book provides a cohesive roadmap for leveraging SSTs to achieve sustainable development goals related to responsible consumption, sustainable infrastructure, and climate action. It investigates how eco-friendly materials, low energy computing, and digital nudges can minimize paper waste, optimize energy use, and influence green consumer behavior. Each chapter is grounded in interdisciplinary evidence and explores the integration of SSTs with renewable energy grids, sustainable supply chain platforms, and participatory digital governance frameworks to foster inclusive, low carbon ecosystems. Overall, the volume presents actionable frameworks and best practice guides for designing SSTs that balance technological innovation with environmental stewardship.

Novel in its approach, this book will be of great interest to students and scholars of sustainable business, corporate governance, and sustainable technology.
