History is replete with great women athletes, about whom little has been written. This book highlights 50 from the 20th century. Part One presents the author's judgment as to the five greatest women athletes. They either dominated a sport for a decade or more; competed successfully in several sports; or established standards by which later competitors were judged. Part Two features ten "pioneers," all of whom competed prior to World War II, whose break-through performances have since been taken for granted. The 35 athletes in Part Three have dominated their era and made significant contributions to the world of sports.
