a wonderful surprising read

I didn't know anything about the book and was so pleased by the story, characters and compelling atmosphere...a strange setting that really comes alive...the characters haunt you...linger on your mind...there are depths to the story but what's immediately appealing are the life-like characters and dilemmas.
