The Great Basin is the largest land area in the United States with no outlets to the ocean. This region covers most of Nevada, half of Utah, and parts of California, Idaho, Oregon, and Wyoming. The Great Basin is actually made up of several smaller basins, including the Great Salt Lake and the Salton Sink. This large area has a variety of climates, elevations, landforms, wildlife, and natural parks. Man-made canals have drained the area of water to supply large populations, which has altered the Great Basin from what it used to be.
