You know them by their music.

Probably know a few as your own family. But it never hurts to know their statistics and the adversity of their struggle to get to the top. This book is part of the outstanding African Americans series. However, I specifically picked this book as a better way to get to know my favorite artists. Naturally, everyone will have their favorites; however, it is good to also compare them to others in the field of Jazz. There is a personal profile that includes – born, died, career, family, and awards. Each artist has a second on, growing up, developing skills, and overcoming obstacles. I suggest you also view Jazz: A Film by Ken Burns.
