This essential reference presents complete and detailed drawings, descriptions, and photographs from recently completed projects. The book presents inspiring examples of entryways from residences, museums, factories, historic structures, and modern office buildings in Europe, South America, and the U.S. rings together examples of inspiring openings across all architectural scales, including residential, industrial, and commercial. "Openings" features 21 projects from today's top designers, including Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Rural Studio, Venturi, Scott Brown & Associates, John McAslan & Partners, and Wilkinson Eyre Architects.
Graphic Standards should quickly produce more titles in this series. The details are clearly drawn and extremely useful in this format. You get full-color photo examples and comprehensive technical data attached to each system (inlcuding plans, 3D diagrams, etc). A fair comparison would be with the German publication 'Details' which is published monthly (and in larger volumes as well); except this may be somewhat more relevant to architects in the U.S. because virtually all of the projects are in imperial units and in the States. A worthwhile addition to your library.
Nice of technical details and gorgeous pictures

Plenty of very interesting ideas for splendid buildings. drawings are well done and very useful. However, I would have liked more of them especially about weather stripping since it is where opening usually fail. Last, a larger format would have been very much appreciated. At any rate, worth buying.
ARTful Openings

A great book! And not only for professionals, but also for lay people interested in architecture, or young people considering careers in the field. Beautifully put together with gorgeous photographs, this book can take its place among art books. I hope Ms. Talarico decides to write other books of this kind focusing on different parts of buildings, e.g. windows, balconies, roofs or staircases. Thank you, Ms. Talarico!
Review of Openings

A wonderfull book! Nicely organized with clear photographs, clean drawn details, and informative descriptions. Every chapter inspires new ideas about openings. I only wish there were more chapters. Why hadn't the publishers of Graphic Standards done this before?
Why didn't someone do this sooner?

This is just the kind of book architects can really use. It's beautiful and practical and useful. Unlike the other Graphic Standards books, there are four-color photos on almost every page. And these are some great projects, including The Brasserie in New York City and Rural Studio's Lucy House. I particularly like The Bridge of Aspiration in the "Sculptural" section of the book. There are full sets of drawings for these openings so I can understand the details (and possibly recreate some of them). Bravo Wiley, and thanks to Wendy Talarico and SmithMaran Architects.
