A collection of stories from the Caribbean island of Grenada. Most of the stories of "Granny's Bathroom" occurred in or around the town of St. George's alleyways, narrow streets and shortcuts. The Carenage, Fort George, Sendall Tunnel, The Spout, Empire Cinema, Brathwaite's shop, The Guides' Hut, The Fire station, Sandy Island, The Esplanade and Tanteen were the stage props for our adventures. These special places were frequented by colourful local characters that evoked memories of a way of life that has all but disappeared without a trace, except for the derelict buildings around town that languish abandoned and forsaken, merely mortar footprints reminiscent of better times. The St. George's I grew up in was an orderly and functional town, and it was also clean. I suppose this cleanliness existed because the town, a small center of commerce, was also residential. Some of the people who operated their businesses on the ground floor of their buildings, dwelled upstairs of them.
