I grew up lower middle class. It was not because my parents were lazy or stupid, quite the opposite, they were hard working, talented and very smart. They'd just never been taught how to handle money. I was determined to do better for my family but since my parents could not teach me about money, I spent my adult life squarely in the middle class searching for the way up. After years of study and experience in the School of Hard Knocks, I learned how to handle money. Though it's too late to teach what I've learned to my children, but my grandchildren are a different story. Grandpa's Big Book on Money teaches them both the WHYs and HOWs of money in a personal and heartfelt style. By the way, you are welcome I created my first job at age 8 as the town peddler in little Vernal, Utah and I have had a job or run a business ever since. As an adult, my life's work has been about helping youth, first as a teacher with the LDS Church Educational System and then as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America. I and Debra, my wife, raised six children and are the proud grandparents of 20 beautiful people aged 2 to 18. As a lifelong student of personal finance, holder of numerous awards from the School of Hard Knocks and with an uncanny ability to reach youth, I am uniquely qualified to help young people understand and navigate the world of personal finance.
