A BIT ABOUT FRANK
Frank Westcott aka "GRAMPA-FRANK " has been writing for many years, publishing poetry, fiction and non-fiction, as well as what he calls his Spirit Traveller's Fictions. Among his accolades, one thrill was in 2011, when he won the Gloria Vanderbilt Short Story Award for THE POET. Another was having his long, 2,000 word poem AND SHE LAY HERSELF DOWN chosen as a FINALIST for the 2014 Gwendolyn MacEwen Poetry Prize. Frank even had a wee play published once, called PIGEONS. In these latter years, he has taken a strong interest in play writing. Musicals in particular. He is also a musician. Singer. Performer. Go figure Thus, the connection, word-to-music or the other way around. His full length musical "MOMENTS OF LUV A ROMANTICIZED ROMANTIC COMEDY " is available as a digital download from the Playwrights Guild of Canada's web site's play listings, as well as hard copy via Amazon anywhere in the world, too, if that is your preference.
As an aside, Frank was, at one time, a school principal for a school for intellectually delayed children, as well as a Special Education Specialist for 10 years in regular schools. At one time or another, he also taught one of grades 4,5,6, -&-7.
He enjoys karate for the way it makes his body move, especially when he slows it down like he is moving in water. Love for his family, his daughter, his two granddaughters, their pets & his collie dog Keira inspire him & keep him grounded, sort of LOL Keira is a full-size Lassie-like collie, but a tri-colour. THE PLAY'S SHORT SYNOPSIS: GRANDSON LAIRD visits his grandfather, GRANDPA AGNEW SQUIRES. After talking about many things, a lot of what seemed small talk is actuality profound wisdom from GRANDPA AGNEW. GRANDSON LAIRD comes to some fresh realizations about life, love, and true directions for him and his new wife.
CHARACTERS:
GERTIE: GERTIE is a collie dog. GERTIE can be an invisible presence for easy casting and recognized through gestures etc. by the characters. She doesn't have to be portrayed this way. It is an option for simplicity. I will leave how this is done up to the director and the theatre company that wishes to stage the play. GERTIE is old like GRANDPA AGNEW. GERTIE is nine years old.
GRANDPA AGNEW SQUIRES: Called GRAMPA AGNEW in the script. GRANDPA AGNEW is GRANDSON LAIRD'S grandfather. He is very set in his ways and a philosopher of sorts. GRANDPA AGNEW is 75 years old.
GRANDSON LAIRD: GRANDSON LAIRD is recently married. Even though he doesn't consciously realize it, he is looking for answers to this life-thing we are all on together. From his beloved GRANDPA AGNEW SQUIRES, he is unconsciously searching for direction(s) he and his wife should take to make their lives fulfilled in the truest of ways. GRANDSON LAIRD is 27 years old.
