"Grandma Lai Goon Remembers: A Chinese-American Family Story" combines text by Ann Morris with photographs and illustrations by Peter Linenthal. The book tells about the relationship between Lai Goon and her granchildren, Allyson and Daniel. An immigrant from China, Lai Goon speaks Chinese and tells the grandkids about her life in China. She teaches them traditional Chinese calligraphy and other parts of their shared cultural heritage. This is an interesting book that is full of many photos, many of them in full color. My favorite photo shows Grandma doing tai chi in a bright yellow sweatsuit. The photos of her with her grandhildren are warm and enjoyable to see. The book ends with a suggested exercise on doing research into one's own family history. Overall, a good book for young readers of any ethnic group.
