I really love this book. It spoke to my heart years ago when we were forced to put OUR marmalade cat of 12 1/2 years to sleep (cancer). The author doesn't hand out platitudes, she deals with the young boy's questions without trying give pat answers to them, and he comes to a place of peace and gratitude about having had such a wonderful cat. She doesn't try to console him by saying that his beloved pet is now feeding the flowers and trees, or something equally inane and depressing. It's beautifully expressed: sad, yes -- but so is the death of our beloved pets. I thought it was real, and thus, very respectful of the loss children and all humans experience when such a precious member of one's family dies.
