A Fabulous Book

If you are at all interested in European history, this book will grab you from beginning to end. Truly every page presents striking characters and cultures, from the Karaite Turkic Jews of Lithuania and their magically sweet cucumber strain brought north from Crimea to the minstrel guilds that admitted only blind musicians. Beautifully, clearly, and colorfully written, meticulously researched, and guaranteed to fascinate. I am nearing the end, and already looking forward to re-reading this. Bravo!
