Could Be Better

What I like about the book: 1) Provides a succinct and accessible argument for vegetarianism. 2) Includes evidence from the Bible. 3) Provides scientific evidence about health and environmental benefits of vegetarian diet. 4) Explains how people in poverty stricken countries are impacted by meat consumption in wealthy countries. 5) Has a section that addresses commonly asked questions such as: Why did God give Noah permission to eat meat? and What about Jesus casting demons into swine? 6) Includes a chapter on how to deal diplomatically with friends and family who choose to eat meat? 7) Includes tips on how to get involved in the vegetarian and animal rights movements. 8) Provides information on modern factory farming. 9) Does all this in 113 pages. What I dislike: 1) The authors feel the need to reconcile their vegetarian views to the Bible by denying that it is a sin to eat meat. I quote the author: "There are many passages in the Bible where people eat meat, evidently with God's approval ... eating meat is not inherently sinful ... whatever may have been acceptable in the days of the shepherds who cared for their flocks, the level of cruelty today is not in keeping with God's call for kindness for all God's creatures." Page 87 In other words, the whole issue is factory farming, and the animals have no intrinsic right to life. A better argument would be that some societies - ancient and modern - need to eat meat because of inadequate plant life or agronomy. This includes the biblical societies to which Jesus and Moses belonged. This is, however, not the situation in the wealthier nations such as England and the United States.

Excellent introduction to faith-based vegetarianism

This book is an excellent introduction to faith-based vegetarianism. "The Bible is God's handbook for our lives," the authors claim, making it ideal for Bible-oriented Christians. They also give good advice for how to promote Christian vegetarianism. A useful and well-written book.

Richly detailed with information- a great read.

I would absolutely recommend this book. It is a beautifully crafted, well-versed book that reads like a novel, but is full of information and facts to fuel your soul's mission on earth. The author combines the words of Christ, as written in the Bible, with facts and figures to communicate a strong message- do as Jesus did, and love thy neighbor- animals included!
