Book Overview

Sandra Greene knows men don't go for women like her: the invisible ones, the plain ones scrambling to make a living without benefit of the right connections, college degree, and fashionable clothes. But her life is changed forever when, at an old friend's wedding, she meets the wealthy socialites of the Hunt Club. They proudly claim they made that wedding possible, and they make Sandra an offer no woman can refuse.

Sandra is guaranteed to marry any man she wants--no matter how good-looking, rich, powerful, or successful. All she has to do is play their matchmaking "game." Seduced by the promise of makeovers, money, and matrimony, she quickly joins the Hunt Club and can't wait to go after the husband of her dreams--a sexy Hollywood actor.

At first it all seems too wonderful to be true as she changes her life and is about to get her guy--until the FBI steps in asking questions. Just how far will these women go to get what they want? That's when Sandra begins to realize that matchmaking is really murder...possibly in more ways than one

Very Enjoyable

This started out as typical Chick Lit and then switched gears and became a page turner. The plot is a little far-fetch, but totally enjoyable. The twist at the end is worth the read.

A Must-Read for Every Woman (and men beware!)

My friends have been talking about this one for several weeks, and I finally had to read it. This book made me laugh, made me cry, and made me read it over and over several times. Each time I read it, I saw something new. It's ultimately a roller-coaster love story between an "average", kind of a loser, pizza girl and a rich, successful hollywood actor. I loved the suspense and mystery (and the FBI) and especially the unexpected ending. I also loved the humor as we experience things through Sandra's eyes, written in first person. You'll want to read it for the insight you gain about human nature (how mean we women really are! My ex-husband would say I TOLD YOU SO) and what attracts us to the opposite sex. If you really want to know how to make someone fall in love with you, READ CHAPTER 15! (Guys, you especially will be shocked when you read this.) This book is written in intelligent, fun voice that draws you in, I felt like Sandra could have been me. She is THAT real and well written and I actually missed her after I finished the book. If you've ever had a day where you felt invisible to guys or felt shadowed by someone better looking, better educated, or more polished than you, then you will relate and absolutely love Sandra. How far would you go to change your whole life and get any man you could want? The rich women of The Hunt Club help her do just that (even though they actually want to further their on twisted agenda) and Sandra goes on a journey of self-discovery that helps you, see your own life in a new way. I read a lot of books, and have noticed authors will come so close to really nailing it with characters, plot, and writing style, but never quite get there. The author of Good Man Hunting finally gets it right.

Good Page-Turner!

If you were single and someone handed you a golden opportunity to land any man you wanted, what would you do? And who would you choose? Plain Jane, "invisible" Sandra Greene gets her chance to answer as the author takes us on her wild, page-turning ride. When Sandra attends her friends wedding, she meets several wealthy members of the Hunt Club. They offer her the opportunity to join them with the possibility of making all her marriage and romance dreams come true. After which, match-making, mayhem, miracles, make-overs, and murder abound! I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading Good Man Hunting, but by page five, I was hooked. I immediately identified with the main character, Sandra Greene, and happily followed her through her remarkable journey. Good Man Hunting is a riveting, modern day fairy full of intrigue and captivating characters. Debut author, Lisa Landolt, has really left an impression worth following, and will be on my auto-read list. If you are looking for a truly enjoyable, gripping read, this Cinderella story is a keeper!

amusing twist on fairy tale romances

At a wedding of a friend, a member of the Hunt Club asks plain wallflower Sandra Greene to join their group that assists women in making their ideal match regardless of who he is. The pizza parlor assistant manager thinks this might prove entertaining and diverting so she joins. Though some of the goings-on discomfit the nerd, Sandra for the most enjoys the club especially its matchmaking support to help a woman obtain the hand of the man of their choice. Sandra hopes to land former sitcom star Mike Warren. However, she is stunned before she goes out on her first date with her chosen one; the FBI informs Sandra that the Hunt Club has performed some nefarious deeds that she finds somewhat hard to believe, but then again she witnessed the sordid undoing of some male meat. This way out over the top charmer will hook readers with its "Cinderella" concept turned upside down by the FBI (could they be the wicked step-family?). The story line is whimsical as Sandra thinks the Hunt Club goes ethically too far yet she believes she will do anything to land Mike until she learns how far is far to the club members. Lisa Landolt provides her audience with an amusing twist on fairy tale romances. Harriet Klausner

Good job for a first-time novelist...

As things are getting a little stressful as I count down to Lotusphere, I decided to pick up one of my advance reader copy books for some light entertainment. The choice was Good Man Hunting by Lisa Landolt. It's probably more of a "chick lit" book than I'd normally read, but it wasn't bad. Landolt did well for a first-time author, and my only criticism of the book is that the "hunt" part of the story seemed to go on a bit too long... Sandra Greene has been invited to join a rather unique "club", one where the women members are committed to getting each other the husband of their dreams. But we're not talking about snagging Joe Unknown down the street. The members have their eyes on guys that are rich, famous, and very good looking. The feeling is that these types of guys would never notice the women unless "special intervention" was taken to allow the guys to get to know them regardless of their looks. Resources, contacts, and money are not a problem for the Hunt Club, and they'll go to nearly any extreme to set up the meetings which are aimed towards matrimony. All the "winners" have to do is promise to contribute a certain percentage of hubby's fortune back into the club for future hunts. Greene doesn't have the financial means to join, but she's sponsored by one of the members. She's quickly drawn as the next subject of a hunt, and she decides on an actor who she truly falls in love with during the setup. The feeling is mutual, and it looks as if the Hunt Club will add one more successful hunt to their tally. But the FBI has a different view of the club activities, and they snag Sandra as an unwilling accomplice to dig up background information. She has to figure out if the accusations made by the FBI are really true, and if so, how can she separate herself from the club and stay out of jail? For starters, I enjoyed the premise of the plot. You learn immediately that the FBI is putting pressure on Greene, and then the story shifts back to the beginning of her involvement with the club. That story is then followed back up to the point of the FBI contact, where the story pushes to the ending twists and turns that were fun to follow. My only issue is that the hunt sequences could have been tighter. It seemed as if we were constantly back at another meeting where more staging was being set up. After awhile, it seemed to get a bit old. You *do* need to suspend belief quite a bit when it comes to how the club is able to accomplish nearly anything with seemingly no constraint on finances. But hey, it's entertainment... :) In the back of the book, the author states that the ideas for the book developed over many years, but that it only took about ten days to write. I'm impressed that she was able to do this well in that short a period of time as a rookie novelist. With a bit more time and experience, I think she could develop a nice following for her writing.
