Engr. Owen Simon who later became one of the key players in the polity of the Russell Island is a chemical engineer. In the face of adversities and dwindling oil fortunes, he joined the politics of his independent state. Together with his team of government representatives, they were able to confront a new immigrant into one of the government reserved area in the southern district who brought hues and statures of gold into the island. This discovery would later replace their opportunities and values with the draining oil well.
