"Trust.... Such a dated feeling..... One has it for his or her mother, or father, from
birth. Well in the best cases, till death of one of the two. Other than that example, it can never be so pure as that."
Steven is a man with many abilities, regular and survivalist, that he will use to save not just himself, his smart and loyal German Shepard Blitzen, and his adopted autistic daughter Jenny....But also all of the friends that he has summoned to meet him at a hidden plateau, a former gold claim, in the Eastern Cascade mountains of Oregon. After war breaks out between the United States, (who had left NATO), and the Eastern Alliance. These events turns the world as he knows it...into a doomsday fight to protect their own and their little piece of safety called "Gold Claim".
Trust, friendship and the will to survive are all that guides Steven and his merry band of misfits. Some have all the skills needed to fight and others use their wits and ability to con people. Jenny will come into her own abilities and become what she was meant to be all along.
With the threat of a World War, or the end of the world as they know it, they suffer through death, near starvation, the threat of falling into exploited slavery and the ever-present knowledge that the Eastern Alliance soldiers will find them.
Over the course of two years, this band of friends and lovers, experience joys and defeats like nothing they have ever experienced before. Who wins and who loses? Who lives and who dies?
"Gold Claim" is a testament to survival and the ever-changing threat of the next world war.- Valerie McGee, Editor.
