Our Lord Jesus Christ had great compassion on the multitudes that were harassed and helpless like the sheep without shepherd (Matt. 9:35). He looked at the crowds following Him and referred to them as a field that was ripe for harvest. Many people are ready to give their lives to Christ in repentance from their sins if someone would show them how. Out of the place of compassion, Jesus calls His disciples and the 21st century church into action.

However, while we as a church remain inactive and passive to the command of our Lord for urgent evangelism, the devil is left to harass, molest, and destroy individuals, families, and nations throughout the world through the instrumentality of sin and open rebellion against the Lord and the principles of His kingdom.

The urgent and desperate call to evangelism is not a call to mission and evangelism is not a call to rush around frantically trying to use our human arrangement to bring men to Calvary. When Jesus saw the harassed people of His days, He gave a call for His disciples to pray (Matt. 9:38). Urgency should push us to our knees, for it is from there we receive direction for our unique soul winning assignment and contribution to mission. After we have received instruction from the Lord Jesus Christ, we are then called to obey with focused determination without delay. People's lives are hanging in the balance; multitudes are in the valley of decision waiting for believers to lead them to the Way, the Truth, and Life. The end is near. Souls are daily dying and heading for a Christless eternity without hope. The consequence of doing nothing by the believer can be damning.
