Christmas is about more than the birth of a baby. It's about God becoming human so He could fulfill His promise to redeem us. God's Gift of Christmas takes readers deep into the heart of that promise. The book's tone is warm but authoritative. Chapter topics include: The Incarnation The Names (Jesus, Immanuel, Prince of Peace, Mighty God, etc.) God, Mary, and Joseph (Jesus' dual nature as man and God) The Truth of the Nativity The Fullness of Time The Purpose (God's Redemptive Plan)
MacArthur has written what I believe is an excellent book that churches and families can use for Christmas Sunday School lessons or family Christmas devotions. A few years ago our church used this book for November and December Sunday School lessons and was greatly blessed and encouraged. MacArthur peppers the text with the cultural, economic, and social background of the time and shows how the lessons apply to life today. The book is about 150 pages and consists of 9 chapters: 1. A Christmas Prophecy 2. Knots on the Family Tree 3. Is the Virgin Birth Really Essential? 4. Joseph and Mary 5. The People Who Missed Christmas (my personal favorite - hint: it's not "Season's Greetings" or "Happy Holidays"!) 6. God in a Manger 7. Who Were the Wise Men? 8. Born to Die 9. O Come Let Us Adore Him Whether used for Sunday School lessons, family devotions, or your own study, the book will bless and will yet be another reminder of what the Christmas season is REALLY about! Read and be encouraged. Highly recommended!
