Avery walks into a gas station named Godfrey's for snacks. She meets the Return-a living embodiment of the cycle of death and rebirth-and is reincarnated back into the station at the end of each of her lives, unable to escape.

Now, she is trapped in a single, bleeding instant within the station, alongside the two employees she condemned as soon as she stepped inside. Their shifts restart with the cycle, incessantly. Each time the cycle ends, she is torn back into herself to relive the momentary sum of her life. The station constricts as it is swallowed by the Return, offering true death: erasure from the cycle. They seek Godfrey in the center of the station, deep underground, who might keep them safe from the Return until it subsides.

Godfrey is a surreal horror novella about Avery seeing the whole of her life in an instant-and being made to answer for it.
