The "Living Recklessly for God's Renown" Got Me

Pursuing a REAL relationship with Jesus. Not just when you go to church, but in everything we do every day. Sound overwhelming? Not really... in fact, the quality of your life will reflect your 24/7 experience with Jesus, and you can, indeed, live recklessly for Him! Sound fun? Of course, because it is, and this book will help to show you how. This inspirational, exciting book can be read completely in a short period of time, but you will want to go back and reread the parts that touch your heart. The books begins by talking about "sacred discontent". Sacred discontent is what happens to many "good" Christians. It is when you become dissatisfied with simply going to church, and trying to do the "right" things. It's when you begin to realize that there is something more out there, but you are not quite finding it. Are you feeling a little too comfortable with your place in your Christian community? Well, God doesn't always want us to get too cozy. There are 7 deep desires that every person possesses. This small book is filled with glimpses of people's lives. The thing that I appreciate is that the reflections are REAL not some "pie in the sky" sort of relationship with God. These people are experiencing the same kinds of joys and struggles that I do. At the end of each reading are a few questions for reflection or response. This added piece makes the reading practical and applicable. It could also be used for discussion starters in small groups. The overall theme of GE is a "24/7 experience" with God and the readings in the book display how that can be a reality. Highly recommend this book for anyone searching for an answer to the discontent that they feel.

Fresh, Original, Relevant.

GODencounters is well-written, creative, and easy to follow. It's designed for people who suffer from "sacred discontent" -- the feeling of being dissatisfied with the way church is and the desire to draw closer to God. If you find yourself wishing church could be more, this book is for you. Each chapter unfolds along a particular theme that corresponds to GODencoutners' mission. Within each chapter are glimpses of people's lives. Sometimes the stories are funny, sometimes, sad, but they're always real. The goal of the book is for you to find your place in the story; to find community with other like-minded people and perhaps learn from other peoples' experience about how to draw closer to God.

a refreshing surprise

GODencounters is a refreshing change from lots of other devotional books that I've started, but had no desire to finish. The writing is real and from the heart and takes you to the heart of GOD. I began reading it with plans to skim right through, but have often had to stop and just let myself process a section before I could read on. It's truly in the stopping that GOD is encountered. I recommend GODencounters for anyone looking for a catalyst to deepen their personal experience with GOD.
