Not illustrated. 1902 edition. Excerpt: ... enough. Why should we ask for more? What greater gifts have gods vouchsafed to men? What better boon of all their precious store Than our fond hearts that love and love again? Old love may die; new love is just as sweet; And life is fair, and all the world complete; Love is enough. Ella Wheeler Wilcox. Among the Heather AMONG THE HEATHER WINTRY winds are blowing cold On the moors of purple heather, Where in summer days of old Hand in hand we idly strolled, Thou and I together. But those sunny days are past, And no more we walk together Where the snow, on every blast, Whirls about the heather. On the dreary moorland now In the storm I wander, lonely, Longing--love alone knows how--For thy kiss on lips and brow, Longing for thee only: Life can bring me naught but pain Till among the purple heather Hand in hand we walk again, --Thou and I together George Arnold ONE THE world is naught till one is come Who is the world; then beauty wakes, And voices sing that have been dumb. The world is naught when one is gone Who was the world; then the heart breaks That this is lost which once was won. Dear love, this life, so passion-fraught, From you its bliss or sorrow takes; With you is all; without you naught. Arlo Bates. Come to Me, Dearest COME TO ME, DEAREST COME to me, dearest, I'm lonely without thee, Daytime and night-time, I'm thinking about thee; Night-time and daytime, in dreams I behold thee; Unwelcome the waking which ceases to fold thee. Come to me, darling, my sorrows to lighten, Come in thy beauty to bless and to brighten; Come in thy womanhood, meekly and lowly, Come in thy lovingness, queenly and holy. Swallows will flit round the desolate ruin, Telling of spring and its joyous renewing; And thoughts of thy love and its manifold...

Niki Burnham's GODDESS GAMES is a fantastic book for any teen reader. The plot kept me interested all the way through and I read the book in one evening. Two thumbs up! :)

Summer jobs at the plush King's Crown Resort and Spa hopefully hold the answers for three teens in search of solutions to their very different problems. Seneca is used to having whatever she wants. The daughter of an Academy Award-winning actress, Seneca has grown up with the "haves" and doesn't have much patience with the "have nots." Unfortunately, that has all changed. Her mother's job offers have been few and far between since her break up with a famous Hollywood movie mogul. Now Seneca is hoping her job at the resort will result in a boost for her mother's career. Claire already knows all the ins and outs of the summer resort and its snobby crowd of guests because she's one of the locals. Most of her previous year was spent dating the popular young son of one of the regular members. Clubbing, partying, and drinking were the order of business for Claire her entire junior year. She hides a secret that is the reason she's chosen not to work in the family business this summer. Instead, she's trying to mend her wild ways and get in touch with God and her spiritual side. Then there's Drew. She's hoping a summer away from Fort Leavenworth and her depressed mother will help her confront her demons. Loss of a loved one has turned her into a compulsive runner determined to use this summer to train in the higher altitude. But perhaps she is really just running from her problems instead. The start of the summer is pretty rocky as the three roommates attempt to fit their very different personalities into one tiny cabin. Tempers flair and sides are chosen as they privately struggle with their personal troubles. However, as the summer unfolds, each girl finds things they weren't expecting -- new friendships and better understandings of where their lives may be headed next. In GODDESS GAMES, Niki Burnham blends gossip and celebrity with the struggle to overcome life's hurdles. Teens will relate to the characters and their search for meaningful relationships.
