God Bless America

Loveless, jobless and possibly terminally ill, Frank has had enough of the downward spiral of America. With nothing left to lose, Frank takes his gun and decides to off the stupidest, cruelest and most repellent members of society with an unusual accomplice: 16-year-old Roxy, who shares his sense of rage and disenfranchisement. From stand-up comedian and director Bobcat Goldthwait comes a scathing and hilarious attack on all that is sacred in the United States of America.

Comic relief - just shooting off a little steam

When I am forced into the morning rush hour and have to listen to talk radio just to get the traffic report, I will always think of this movie. Frank (Joel Murray) gets fed up with reality TV and the rest of the trash programs that pose as entertainment. He gets an opportunity to correct the worst of it. Young Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr) observes the cure forms a mission in her mind. Is it possible that this daring duo in the style of Bonny and Clyde can actually correct the ills of American entertainment, or will they escape to France? The film drags at first, trying to get us involved in Frank’s world. But you are either in or out, to begin with. Soon, it starts to pick up speed as the mission is formed between Frank and Roxy. Eventually coming to a predictable and satisfying end (be sure to listen to his ending diatribe), no surprises here. Just a lot of fun kibitzing.
