GOD-BIRTHING Challenging Reading

This book suggests that God is continually being born and that the tensions and agonies each of us experiences are part of the labour pains. The book itself has some of both the fertility and pain of childbirth. It may be fruitful with insight and growth for some readers, but it may anger and wound many as well. In his way, Dwinell fearlessly restates, and perhaps even pushes farther, some of the most radical and potentially disturbing insights of a number of the writers whose works I have found most valuable, including C.G. Jung... Dwinell attacks some of the most cherished notions of religion and therapy head on, like sin and redemption on the one hand, and sickness and wholeness on the other. Much therapy, he writes, seems to assume that there is a cure or even a superior substitute for a great sickness, and great sickness called 'life.' Harvey Shepherd C.G. Jung Society of Montreal

Revolutionary and Truly Exciting

GOD-BIRTHING to me represents a probing into an area that is, as yet, inaccessible to direct observation. The ideas of God that I have are so deeply instilled in me that it is frightening to entertain new ones and yet there is something about picturing God as needing my love in order to become fully God that makes profound sense to my experience of life. The thought that I am called to play a part in the process of God's becoming God is to me a revolutionary and truly exciting thought. By sharing so much of his own life, Dwinell has made understandable in human terms just how I might sense the presence of this infinitely lovable God in the midst of my own vulnerability and weakness. The chapters and canticles are much like a piece of music in the form of variations on an unstated theme; I gain a surer sense of the underlying structure as I hear it presented in various forms. It is like a tune that I can't quite seem to be able to hum and yet can't get out of my mind.Rev. Charles G. Newbery

The Reality of Human Existence

How can we look the realilty of human existence right in the eye and comprehend its agony, terror, and brutality, while giving wholehearted, unreserved affirmation to life's value? This is the ultimate question and the subject of this probing book. Dwinell skillfully weaves in meditations and narrative stories that suggest a value in suffering and proposes that the burdens we bear are in fact part of the God-Birthing process.

GOD-BIRTHING - Challenges popular Psychological

GOD-BIRTHING is a fresh and stimulating explanation of many problems that confound readers today: the emptiness, confusion and compulsions that beset us as we search for the meaning of life. Dwinell is an Episcopal priest and pastoral counselor, but he rejects conventional religious and psychological thinking on almost every page. The result is a remarkably insightful book that very nearly consititutes a course of therapy in itself. Dwinell emphasizes God's need to be born through us--a powerful challenge to the popular psychological authors who write for "adult children" victimized by past events. It is recommended to anyone who yearns for a deeper prespective on the mysteries of life. Readable, thought-provoking and change-provoking, GOD-BIRTHING will reward its audience again and again.Jean Reynolds, PILGRIMAGE
