Wonderful book

This is a wonderful book- the history, stories and inspirational advice from the life of the prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley are motivating and will lift your spirits.

The biography is good, the biographee is great.

A very good book about an extraordinary life. Sheri Dew captures the essence of Gordon B. Hinckley and portrays him as a man who could be your next-door-neighbor as well as someone who could shape the world. With painstaking research, she has given us everything from the essence of his public sermons to the loving relationships with his wife and children.I loved envisioning this great man as she told how he would come home from work and take out his frustrations by remodeling his house yet one more time or by working in the yard. Or how he would leave with his family early from the drive-in movie because he couldn't stand getting caught in traffic. I could see myself doing the same sorts of things, and came to identify with him on a human level. I loved thinking about how this great world leader tried to escape going to school as a child. At the same time, she brings out the marvelous capacity he had for understanding things and remembering details, his deep and abiding love for the children of God all over the world, and his ever-present, indomitable faith and optimism. It's a wonderful study of the prophet-leader of the latter-day saints.At the same time, I wish she had done more to distill the details she presents into commentary. Especially toward the end, the book seemed to drag somewhat as she presented public sermon after public sermon, etc. This isn't the last biography to be written of Gordon B. Hinckley - I'll be looking forward to that classic that is yet to come.
